The Best Temperature Is Taken

A reactor temperature is a process variable and a patent boundary at once. The physics-optimal point on the axis is the most heavily claimed point on it, and every escape route costs conversion, run-hours, or years.

In one paragraph

A methane-pyrolysis reactor is set by one dial. Temperature fixes equilibrium conversion, recycle load and specific electricity, and it fixes catalyst run-hours through a measured deactivation barrier. The same dial is the horizontal axis on which patent claims are drawn, so a chosen operating point sits inside a named claimed range with a named holder and a named opening date. This study draws both overlays on one thermometer, which is not where anyone draws them. The corpus’s own first-of-a-kind window, 850 to 950 °C on an iron-ore catalyst, sits inside the claimed temperature ranges of six live families at once, and live-family occupancy peaks just above it. Every exit from that junction is priced in process terms rather than money: colder ground is graded TRL 2 to 4 with no commercially viable pathway before 2031, hotter ground spends catalyst life against the deactivation clock, and waiting for the core parcel to open runs to about 2036. The verdict is a parcel reference and a date. It is never a score, never a price and never a freedom-to-operate conclusion, because a temperature inside a range is one element among several and whether any family covers a plant on all of them is a question for counsel.

What it establishes

  1. 01

The temperature a process engineer reaches by instinct is the temperature somebody already registered. The corpus’s own first-of-a-kind recommendation, 850 to 950 °C on an iron-based catalyst, sits entirely inside the Hazer family’s 600 to 1,000 °C at 0 to 100 bar(g) over non-synthetic iron ore, and inside five further live claimed ranges. Occupancy is denser still just hotter: eight live families overlap 900 to 1,100 °C, and at most four overlap below 800 °C.

  2. 02

Every exit has a price, and it is not money first. Colder means lower single-pass conversion and a larger recycle loop, on a field graded TRL 2 to 4 whose own staged plan reaches a commercial demonstration only between 2034 and 2038. Hotter spends catalyst life against a deactivation barrier of 147.87 kJ/mol, fitted to Ni/SBA-15 between 525 and 600 °C at deactivation order 0.5, with nickel replacement estimated every 10 to 100 hours of continuous operation. Waiting runs to about 2036, past the sector’s own decisive 2026 to 2028 commercialisation window.

  3. 03

The crowding count is a floor, not a census. Sixteen live families state no temperature range at all and so cannot be placed on the axis, and two of the six overlapping rows carry an unresolved holder conflict carried verbatim rather than resolved. Six is a temperature-overlay count, not six clean counterparties, and not a count of families that cover a plant on every element.

  4. 04

One apparent free hole is a register finding rather than a clearance. A 1998 European filing over nickel catalysts at about 400 to 900 °C was deemed withdrawn on 3 April 2002 and never proceeded to grant, with the Canadian member recorded as abandoned. It is not called expired, because it never became a patent. The band it would have covered is shown unoccupied by any verified live family, and the register does not establish who, if anyone, occupies it.

  5. 05

The verdict stays a parcel and a date. The study never says anyone infringes: a temperature inside a claimed range is one element among several, and all-elements construction against the granted claim as amended is a task for qualified counsel in each jurisdiction. The evidence cut-off is 12 September 2026, and renewal and fee status after that date is not established.

The world simulator

Run the study’s own world.

Set the operating point as a single gesture — a temperature, at a pressure, over a catalyst corner — and stand anywhere in the calendar. The model returns which registered parcel contains the whole coordinate, who holds it and when it opens, alongside the equilibrium and recycle rails and the deactivation clock. Three kinds of absence are drawn as findings rather than gaps: no parcel occupying the point, a parcel held with no dated opening, and a temperature bounded by seven families where none occupies the point.

Both the study and its simulator are open. Nothing on this page is behind a form, because a form that hands over a PDF to anyone who types an address is a lead-capture device and this is not that.

The Years After the Sale

Its world opens on an undefined verdict, because in year one a machine sold outright and still under warranty has no service line to have a margin. This study’s opens on a definite one: 900 °C on iron ore, parcel C-105, opening about 2036. The same discipline, two worlds that behave nothing alike, because their subjects do not.

Both worlds were built on the same discipline: parameters load at evidenced central values, one gesture returns to them, range ends are published extremes, and any other configuration is labelled as the reader’s scenario.

They behave nothing alike, because their subjects do not. That contrast is the strongest thing the pair can show.

This study is a showcase of Quorum, not the whole of it.

It summarises a small part of a much larger body of research. Every factual statement in it carries a reference to a verified source, and every figure carries the claim ids behind each value it prints. If your matter is adjacent to this one, Quorum can be pointed at it.
