Working Student, Data & Testing

Get hands-on with real AI products: data pipelines first, then test automation across two products.

Saarbrücken, hybrid · Working student, up to 20 hours a week in term · Start: January 2027

The role

You start on data and move to testing. First you bring new institutions’ data into our research-analytics product. As our products mature, you take over end-to-end testing for both of them.

Why this role

  • Real work on production systems from your first week, not a side project.
  • You see how a small team builds software with AI coding agents.
  • Two products from the inside: data first, then quality across both.

What you will do in your first year

  • Run data ingestion for new institutions from open scholarly sources (OpenAlex, Crossref, PubMed, ORCID), with AI agents writing the routine code; check the results against what each institution really publishes, and fix what is wrong.
  • Prepare institution datasets and help onboard new institutions.
  • Later in the year, own the reference (“golden”) test data for both products, direct AI agents that write end-to-end tests, and prove each test fails when the code breaks.

What you bring

  • Enrolment as a university student in computer science, data science or a related subject.
  • Python, SQL and Git.
  • Care with data and detail.
  • Curiosity about AI coding tools, and the habit of checking their output.

Nice to have

Working with public APIs; MongoDB; Playwright or pytest; Docker.

Apply.
